With world urea prices surging 150 percent since spring, China's high export tariffs have failed to discourage shipments of urea overseas. Now industry sources suspect the government will increase the tariff to 185 percent to prevent shorting domestic nitrogen supplies.

Ethanol company Poet announced Wednesday that it expects to complete construction on its pilot-scale cellulosic-ethanol plant in South Dakota sometime in the fourth quarter of 2008. All told, the Poet corn-cob technology will be capable of producing 11 percent more ethanol from each corn bushel and 27 percent more ethanol from an acre of corn.
USDA said its 155 bushel-per-acre corn yield projection last week was due in large part to expectations that plant populations have increased this year, a finding that seems to be borne out by an admittedly unscientific survey on DTN this week. [Read and Comment on Full Blog]
